Recently, the Michigan Catastrophic Claims Association (MCCA) unanimously voted to return excess funds back into the pockets of Michigan drivers like yourself. Insurance carriers will be receiving the funds directly from the MCCA on 3/9/22, and have until 5/29/22 to complete the refund process. Below are answers to the most frequently asked questions about this refund, and the process of distribution. We will continue to post updates as more information becomes available.
All private passenger vehicles, motorcycles, motorhomes, and commercial fleet vehicles that were insured on 10/31/2021, and carried at least the state minimum requirement for liability coverage are eligible to receive a refund.
$400/per vehicle for standard registrations. $80/vehicle for historic registrations.
Unfortunately, comprehensive only/other than collision does not meet the requirements to receive the refund.
No, your insurance company will disperse the refund automatically to all eligible policyholders.

Citizens Insurance Company: Fund distribution will depend on the method of payment you are currently set up with. If you have payments auto-withdrawn from your checking or savings account (EFT) the payment will be direct deposited to the account on file. For all other methods of payment, you will receive a check by mail to your address on file.
Frankenmuth Insurance Company: Funds will be distributed by check to the mailing address on file.
Freemont Insurance Company: Funds will be distributed by check to the mailing address on file.

Yes, this refund applies to commercially insured vehicles. The refund amount will depend on how the vehicles are scheduled on the policy.
