We've all heard about Medicare, but do you know how to enroll? Medicare has a seven-month registration period called the Initial Enrollment Period, or IEP. Medicare's IEP varies for everyone, it's three months before your 65th birthday, the month of your 65th birthday, and three months after your 65th birthday. This means you have seven months for your initial enrollment period. For a number of reasons, we might miss that period. Maybe we didn't know we were eligible or maybe we didn't know that there was a specific period for enrollment. If that's the case, Medicare also offers what they call an Open Enrollment Period, where people can register and change existing plans. It's a little shorter than the IEP, so you need to act fast if you want to compare or change plans, or register, during this period.
